If you are already familiar with us here at Petty’s, you’ll know that we strive to help others wherever possible. The events of the last few weeks have hit us hard, both as a company and personally, and it’s taken us a while to get our heads around exactly what is going on and what comes next.

I’m sure you feel the same.

After an initial bout of overwhelming sadness and shock, myself, Jenny, and the rest of Team Petty’s decided the only way forward is to continue doing what we’ve always done: We must assist, aid, and avail anyone who needs our support, guidance, or advice.

The big question was, how do we do that in light of recent events?

We knew it had to be something practical. A tangible service that truly benefits the community we are so proud to be a part of. Something big enough to make a difference, yet still intimate enough to remain in line with our company ethos. A way of helping individuals through the coming months of uncertainty and beyond, whilst also contributing to local businesses who are clearly facing tough times ahead themselves.

Introducing PSP HomeCare

After much deliberation, we have decided to take the property management side of our business to a whole new level. Previously, this service was only available to landlords, but now we’re opening our books to the general public...and we’re absolutely positive it will make a huge difference to many local residents.

What is PSP HomeCare?

As property specialists who have been in existence since 1908, we have built up an incredible database of local contractors and business owners over the years. These are companies we not only believe in, they’re businesses we actively use ourselves...frequently.

They include, but are not limited to:

  • Plumbers (including Gas Safe engineers)
  • IT and Communication experts
  • Roofers
  • Accountants
  • Painters and Decorators
  • Mortgage Brokers
  • Electricians
  • Builders
  • Financial Advisors
  • Surveyors
  • Landscapers and Gardeners
  • Cleaners

While review websites that recommend tradespeople certainly have their place, nothing beats a personal recommendation. That’s what we’re offering to you as we roll out PSP HomeCare.

To reiterate, this is not just a list of builders, accountants, electricians, financial advisors, plumbers, landscapers, mortgage brokers, roofers, IT experts, etc. who happen to operate in and around E11...these are people we wholeheartedly trust and work with on a regular basis.

Who will it benefit?

Broadly speaking, anyone and everyone, but let’s get a little more specific than that and look at some real-life examples:

  • Vulnerable locals whose loved ones live further afield: If you have an elderly relative who lives in or around the Wanstead area, but you aren’t based locally, wouldn’t it be nice to have someone you can trust to turn to for advice and recommendations? PSP HomeCare will give you peace of mind, and your loved one the help they need.
  • Those new to the area: If you’ve just moved to the local area, the chances are high that you’ll have no idea who to turn to should your pipes spring a leak or your guttering starts overflowing. We can help you find the right contractor for your specific needs, saving you both time and money.
  • Anyone else who needs reliable and trustworthy recommendations: We’re here to help you, too. Regardless of whether it's a slipped tile on your roof or a damp patch that’s mysteriously appeared on your living room wall, you’ll want the right professional for the job. We will get the correct contractor out to you quickly and with a minimum amount of fuss.

How will it work?

Obviously, we are operating in extremely trying times at present and will continue to follow Government guidelines to the letter. This is why we will be offering video consultations for any problems you may have.

Conducting our initial evaluation in this way will allow us to see what’s going on and assess what needs doing, by whom. It’s often the case that issues are misdiagnosed and the wrong contractor is contacted, which can result in a costly bill for something that may not address the underlying cause of the problem.

Take the example of a damp patch mentioned above. Many homeowners will think they are doing the right thing by calling in damp specialists straight away, but the cause may be something far simpler, and less expensive, to fix. Why pay thousands for new damp proofing when you really don’t need it?

Our video consultations will ensure you not only get a solid diagnosis, they’ll also enable us to get the right contractor out to you quickly, thus saving you time and money. In the current climate, minimising the amount of visitors to your home is obviously priority number one, so it’s never been more important to find the right contractor, first time, every time.

What else?

After reading the above, you might be wondering if we’re switching strategies altogether and moving away from our core estate agency model. The answer to that is an unequivocal, no. PSP HomeCare is an additional service, not a replacement for what we still regard as our fundamental business model: helping people realise their property dreams.

We are still here, operating at full strength, helping buyers and sellers, landlords and tenants. Phone lines are being manned and emails are being replied to, albeit from the team’s homes rather than our Wanstead offices for the foreseeable future.

It’s very much business as unusual here at Petty’s, in that regard.

So, if you have any property related queries, do still feel free to reach out. Whether you’re a tenant who feels as though your landlord is acting unfairly or, vice versa, a landlord who has a difficult tenant, we’re still here to help.

Buyers and sellers, too, should be reassured that we are doing everything we can to keep you moving. The whole team here is fully up to speed with the latest news and guidelines on what the current situation means for those in the housing market, so do give us a call if you have any questions you’d like answers to.

In addition, you can bookmark our COVID-19 page and refer back to it if you want to keep abreast of all the latest property related guidance from the UK Government and the industry’s leading lights.

We are also beginning to conduct virtual viewings and valuations, which are not only proving helpful, but also a lot of fun. As many of you will already know, we are very much about the personal touch here at Petty Son & Prestwich, and this digital connection is making the relationships we have with our clients even stronger than they were before.

While we obviously can’t make any promises on individual cases without first talking things through with you, we want you to know that all of us here at Petty’s are on your side. We will offer general advice and counsel whenever it is requested and the introduction of PSP HomeCare will enable us to go one step further.

Although it may be somewhat cliché to say that we are all in this together, clichés are often born out of truth, and I, for one, firmly believe that if we help each other out wherever possible, we will make it to the other side. Stronger.

Stay safe, stay well, stay positive,

John Wagstaff MNAEA, MARLA,
